Satinbox is a specialty retailer of fine lifestyle products and gifts. All the products offered on the site are products that we love and it's pretty tough to earn our love. We hope the stuff we offer makes living every day a more joyous experience. We also hope we inspire you to give more and give better, and not just giving gifts, but giving more of yourself, your time, your knowledge to friends and family and also to those in need. We also hope you are inspired to give back to the ones you love, your community and the planet you live on!

Satinbox was started by a wife and husband team in 2004. Yes, we're a small family business and we are new parents as well! Occasionally, when we are not happy with the products available on the market --when we just can't find a brand/product to love-- we will create our own.

Our product offerings are always influx to reflect the continual changes and growth in our own lives, so please come back and visit often. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or check out the help pages for more information on our policies.

Green
At Satinbox we endeavor to be environmentally friendly. We also try to eliminate inefficiencies and waste. We strive to work with companies that have the same philosophy. We've taken a number of steps to minimize our impact on the environment, including global warming, in all aspects of our business and personal lives. We also try to choose healthy and sustainable products to use everyday and and even offer on our site. Here are some of the things we are doing:

Reducing the amount of stuff we use and buy in general (for packaging, for running operations, storing inventory, etc.)
Recycling packaging materials and all paper, plastics, glass, ink cartridges, etc.
Reduce amount of print outs and make a habit of double-side printing in the office Using recycled paper in our offices
Using renewable energy for our home and business
Using eco-friendly household/office cleaners
Turning off lights during the day and powering down appliances/electronics when not in use
Limit heating/cooling (we open windows and layer up as much as possible)
Using LSD rechargeable batteries in small electronics, mice, etc.
Making green choices when choosing packaging and products whenever practical and possible: we reuse clean paper to void fill and try to use appropriate size boxes for shipping, our bubble mailers are all made from recycled materials and are super light using less fuel energy for shipments
We try to avoid plastics and plastic products, especially non recyclable-ones whenever possible. Unfortunately, the packaging of most products these days are made from plastic. Furthermore, we do need to use plastic bubble wrap and tape for some packages in order to assure things arrive to customers in good condition. We do encourage our customers to recycle these items when possible. We also reuse or recycle all peanut packaging to keep them out of landfills.
We try to choose well-made products to offer customers which last longer and can be reused over and over
For babies and kids you can find more natural materials for toys and you won't see us carrying melamine, although it is quite popular, we do not believe it is a safe or eco-friendly material

Despite these actions, we and our business continue to generate a certain amount of carbon emissions  and waste that we just can't avoid completely (yet). Until we can eliminate these carbon emissions entirely, we wanted to support direct efforts others are making to reduce carbon emissions, such as promoting green energy, energy efficiency and reforestation. We contribute to the Carbonfund.org, who works to fund these projects on our behalf to offset some of our carbon footprint.

Why did we choose CarbonFund.org?

Carbonfund.org is a 501(c)(3) charitable, non-profit organization with a comprehensive set of programs to offset the environmental impact of our lives including investments in renewable energy, energy efficiency, and reforestation. Carbonfund.org offers independent verification of their projects, ensuring that the carbon offsets that are purchased will be used efficiently.
